The evening belonged to New Zealand power-house Jack Bauer as the Kiwi National road champion stormed to a solo victory in front of the 15,ooo strong crowd in Chester. Fresh after a strong third-placed ride at Saturday's Smithfield Nocturne, Bauer even had time to celebrate as he eased to the win following a great demonstration of lone riding in the final few laps.

Of course the Tour Series is all about the team, and Bauer was ably backed up by Rob Hayles and Ian Wilkinson as the trio scored maximum team points to take the 1-2-3.

After the race, Jack said:
We went in to this round with all guns blazing. The execution of our plan was perfect tonight, the guys all rode brilliantly. It was the plan for me to launch an attack with around 15 laps to go, hopefully going away, leaving the guys to clean up in the sprint, and to be honest that is pretty much what happened.

After the break went away with about 15 laps top go, it was then me, Malcolm [Elliot] and Kristian [House] and then with 6-7 laps left I really went for a long one, got the gap and then just held it to the line - although with my showboating on the last lap it came down a fair bit!

Speaking about the all-important team aspect Bauer said;
Yeah, that was pretty amazing, we are really pleased with the win. All of the guys were so committed tonight, we were so focussed on getting this one and the win now means that the we still have a chance in Woking on Thursday night. Of course Motorpoint are favourites but as you know anything can happen, they could have a bad night, it's still possible and it will go down to the wire.

Team captain Rob Hayles spoke to British Cycling after the victory ceremony and said:
We’ve been talking about this the whole series and after the first few races, we thought, it’s not going to happen but we’re all starting to feel good now,  nine races in unfortunately. Tonight’s circuit was as good as any for a 1-2-3 because of the finish. It makes it easier as well when you already have a rider clear. Myself and Wilko then worked it perfectly for the finish. When we went past the pits, Jimmy Mac was beside himself and Winny [Julian Winn] and Brendan were all jumping up and down.
