Racing Round-up
In between rounds of the hectic Tour Series schedule, there's still time for lots of racing. At the Smithfield Nocturne, Kiwi powerhouse Jack Bauer came third after being part of a long breakaway group with eventual winner Ian Bibby of Motorpoint-Marshalls Pasta and Zak Dempster and Darren Lapthorne of Rapha-Condor-Sharp.
The race defining move went fairly early on in proceedings and were allowed a little leeway by the strong field. Just as the foursome had worked their lead out to 30 seconds it appeared that the bunch, led by Giro d'Italia stage winner Matt Goss [HTC-Columbia], had started to reel them in. However, within a few laps the chase had fizzled out and with Endura and Rapha disrupting at the front, the escapees had it.
With two riders in the break, Rapha played the numbers game, but were the moves were closed down and the break headed into the bell lap together. In the final sprint, Bibby outfoxed the others to take his 2nd circuit race victory in three days, with Jack coming in 3rd.
Speaking afterwards, Jack expressed his disappointment simply:
I didn't come here to come third.
On Sunday, the David Bell Memorial Road Race took place in glorious conditions in Ayshire. Fresh from his victory in the Scottish Road Race Championships, Evan Oliphant stamped his authority on the Scottish scene, recording a fine solo victory. Ross Creber and Gary Hand and came over the line hand in hand to make it a clean sweep of the podium for Endura Racing.
